The Little Engine That Could Stands
the Test of Time
The little engine that could turns
out to be Thomas the Tank Engine. First appearing as Rev. W.V.
Awdry’s series of books in the 1940s, Thomas has stood the test of
time to remain a childhood favourite. What with the advancements of
full colour motion picture and sound since then, it only makes sense
to turn the beloved book about the anthropomorphic steam locomotive
in a full length feature film.
Writer of the third Shrek
movie, Josh Klausner, has been commissioned the script for the movie
which looks to combine an impressive array of CGI (computer generated
imagery) and live action. The film is set for release in early 2011.
Ironically beginning as a series
of books, Thomas has become the world’s most popular character among
the illiterate, namely pre-schoolers. Thomas is somewhat of a gold mine
for marketers around the world too, selling more 100 million books a
year, never mind merchandise, paraphernalia and an animated series to
be released in 2010, on the series’ 65th anniversary.
