Guitar Hero to take on Van Halen

Activision, creators of Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero, LEGO Rock Band and The Beatles Rock Band, proved critics and developers wrong by showing how massively popular music-based video games actually are. The next installment, if the previously mentioned weren’t enough for you to get your music fix, will be Guitar Hero Van Halen.

While the full game will see 25 songs, by Van Halen replete with Eddie Van Halen signature solos and 19 guest acts, the prerelease demo will give gamers an opportunity to play four full songs. The bar set by The Beatles Rock Band has just been stepped up to hard rock for the hardcore and nostalgic fans of early metal.

The game began controversially as creators had to prove music-based video games were a viable market. Starting with rock and metal music for guitar fans, the game has stepped up to include more popular forms of music to widen the market. The bigger market share though, has not been without controversy as band No Doubt are suing Activision for including likenesses of the members in the game. Activision have reacted by counter-suing the band for reneging on a promise to publicise the game.
