Inglourious Basterds Special
Edition Blu-Ray DVD brings Jewish revenge fantasy to life.
The film that gave glory to Quentin
Tarantino about a Jewish-American nazi-scalping squad behind enemy lines
during WWII, has been enhanced even further with the Blu-ray launch
of the film on DVD. Inglourious Basterds, not a remake of the
original inglorious Bastards
(as indicated by the misspelling), gives Jews “a violent fantasy that
avenges Nazi atrocities” (Toronto Sun), while rewriting history.
The two-disc special edition Blu-ray
version of the film, appropriately displays the visual dynamic of film.
The grotesque and vivid violence, particularly of the scalping, is enough
to both sicken audiences and earn Tarantino the Academy Award for Best
Film. The latest in a typical line of ultra-violent films, Inglourious
Basterds has been nominated for four Oscars: Best Film (drama),
Best Supporting Actor for Australian-born Christopher Waltz, Best Director
and Best Screenplay.
The film, much like Tarantino’s
others, is full to the brim of inside jokes and intertextual referencing
to other influences which can only fully be appreciated upon the 20th
viewing of the DVD. Extras on the double-disc edition include extended
scenes which include Tarantino in action, comedy camera angle featurette
and an uncut version of Nation’s Pride – the six minute film within
the film shot in black and white as Nazi propaganda by Eli Roth.
