90s singer Monica goes up against singing prodigy Bieber

American R&B singer Monica releases her latest album after a four-year break from the music industry and it looks set to top the charts. The teen star released her debut album at the tender age of 14, and then went on to win a Grammy at the age of 17 for her song “The Boy is Mine” featuring Brandy. Now almost 30 years old, Monica releases her sixth album “Still Standing” which looks set to go head to head with Justin Bieber’s album “My World 2.0” for the Billboard chart topper.

Having more than that in common though, both stars started their music careers at a very young age. Like Monica, Bieber released his first album “My World” before the age of 16. In a recent interview, Monica was quoted as saying “There's not many that I know who are starting quite as young as I did.”

The singer met Bieber at the Haiti relief concert and says that the 16-year-old singer was sweet and enjoying the moment and not taking the music too seriously, just like she was at that age. The singer also went on to say that her life, unlike other young celebrity horror stories, has been great.

Her latest album follows her familiar style and definitely has a 90s influence. This, according to the star, is because she was introduced to the world in the 90s and bears with it Monica’s freeness.

“Still Standing” released in the US last month is available locally in SA from WantItAll.
