Archos 5 miles ahead of offspring 7 and 8

Archos 5 miles ahead of offspring 7 and 8

Innovators of pocket gadgets, Archos have recently dropped the Archos 7 and Archos 8 Tablets following the favourite Archos 5 only to come in a poor second and third place next to original’s bar-setting features. The original internet tablet (Archos 5) was the first device to come standard with Google’s Android Operating Software.

Archos 5, dropped in 2009, was the latest and coolest media tablet and portable media player on the market with its 60 gigabyte hard drive and ARM Cortex processor which allows for full internet browsing because it comes complete with Flash Video– something the apple iPad failed to launch with, much to the disappointment of Apple’s die-hard fans. Archos 5’s slower and bigger cousins, No. 7 and 8 join recently hit the market but will most likely fail to become a favourite.

Other than bigger display areas (although a lot of the Archos 8’s surface area is a thick, chunky, black photo frame) the devices don’t better the 5. The devices come with a smaller (ARM 9) processor which runs at only 600MHz. While they also allow for Wi-Fi, video and music playback and a USB port (again something Apple’s iPad didn’t launch with), you can only watch or listen 7 or 44 hours (respectively) as a result of the poor space. The 7 and 8 come in 2GB and 8GB sizes making them a lot more like SmartPhones without the phone… Bluetooth and GPS.

The devices aren’t all bad though as the Archos 8 offers integration with other devices such as a video camera.

Archos 5 and accessories can be bought from WantItAll for local delivery.
