Gorillaz lose No.1 spot to Boyzone

Virtual band Gorillaz was to take the top spot in Britain’s weekly album chart last week, the same week of its release, but was knocked out the way by boy group Boyzone after mothers’ day. The affinity mothers’ have to Keating’s group helped Boyzone edge-out the animated group’s album “Plastic Beach” despite its massive amount of promotion.

Gorillaz new record features more than just the doodles of Blur’s Damon Albarn, but also artists Mos Def, De La Soul, Kano, Bashy, Gruff Rhys and Lou Reed. Even more, the music video for song Stylo sees a cop-portraying Bruce Willis take shots at the CGI versions of the animated original characters. Yet despite this, Boyzone beat them to the top of the UK Album Chart.

“Brother” is the first album Boyzone have released in 12 years and the first since death of former member Stephen Gately. Gately died of natural causes while on vacation with partner Andy Cowles in Majorca last year. The singer suffered a pulmonary oedema (fluid in his lung). Tabloids suggested the star had committed suicide, that he was involved in drugs and engaged in an eight hour drinking binge just before his death. The family of the singer and their solicitor denied such allegations after an official post mortem was released.

The five-minute video, featuring Bruce Willis sees the band engage in a high-speed pursuit with a police officer. After getting rid of the tail, Willis follows suit and chases the band (during which he takes a number of shots with what appears to be a Desert Eagle), until the group dives head first off a cliff.
