Spin Master takes home the coveted Toy of the Year for Bakugan

The academy awards of the North American toy industry, the Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards commemorates the best of the world’s toys. The toys are judged on their creativity and playful spirit, and this year, Bakugan takes the prize. Spin Master’s Bakugan Battle Brawlers won two TOTY awards: Boy Toy of the Year (for the Bakugan 7-in-1 Maxus Dragonoid) and Property of the Year (for the entire range of toys).

The toys are a spin-off of the Japanese action adventure television series that takes place in the parallel world of Vestroia, home to the Bakugan – small magnetic marbles that turn into powerful warriors when thrown on a gate card. A power-hungry Bakugan named Naga absorbs the negative energy of one of the cores of Vestroia, while his twin sister Wavern absorbs the positive energy.

Seven friends later find the metallic cards and learn about the Bakugan while getting involved in the game and the battle against Naga. The seven children call themselves the Bakugan Battle Brawlers, on which the toys are based.

The 7-in-1 Maxus Draganoid Bakugan toy won Toy of the Year for 2010 because it combines the Bakugan 6 Exclusive Bakugan Trap and Neo Draganoid toys into one massive Bakugan battle monster. Kids can construct the toy themselves, taking Bakugan to a whole new level of toys.
