Iceland volcano moves Iron Man 2 premiere

Iceland volcano moves Iron Man 2 premiere

According to a recent report by the BBC, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have moved the Iron Man 2 premiere from the UK to the US because of uncertainty over air travel. The ash caused by Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull has prevented flights from taking off in Western Earope as planes cannot navigate through the smog.

The premiere, set to for 26 April, would have seen a gathering of stars Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson in London, but has subsequently been moved to Los Angeles. The move may make it problematic for Paltrow to attend, as she is normally based in the UK with English husband Chris Martin of Coldplay.

The film follows the first film “Iron Man” released in 2008, which grossed GBP208 million. Downey resumes the role of playboy millionaire-come-superhero Tony Stark and sees Johansson enter the franchise.

Claiming more than the Iron Man 2 premiere, the volcanic eruption has forced Miley Cyrus to cancel the European premiere of her film “The Last Song”. The screening of the film in Leicester Square (which sees proceeds go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children) will carry on without the star.
