Percy Jackson not to become Spider-Man

Percy Jackson not to become Spider-Man

Rumours of Logan Lerman, of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lighting Thief” fame, to star in the remake of the much-loved Spider-Man are 100 percent untrue, says Sony Pictures. Since the remake of the franchise was announced earlier in the year, Lerman has been reported as saying that he was one of the contenders for the role of Peter Parker, which was probably true.

The 18-year-old actor was quoted as saying: “There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into.” As one of his favourite characters, Lerman said he’d “love to have more conversations about it. It’s just, you know, conversations are starting," he added. "It’s a long process with the studio and the producers and everything.” Apparently longer than he expected.

Last week, Deadline was reported as saying that Lerman had pretty much (read: definitely) got the role of the high-school geek come superhero. Only 48 hours later and Sony posted that not only has he not got the lead role, but that he’s definitely not in the runnings to be the protagonist. Despite Sony’s decisive statement, speculation continues. What can be confirmed though, is that director Marc Webb of “(500) Days of Summer” will be directing the new film.

Announced early in February this year, Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Macguire was scrapped and a new beginning to the franchise would begin: in 3D. The release date is set at 3 July 2012, and the film is as yet untitled, but production will begin this year. According to Sony Pictures the new Spidey film will be the ultimate summer movie-going experience.
