The
iPHONE
Development of the iPhone began
with Apple CEO Steve Jobs' direction that Apple engineers investigate
touchscreens. Apple created the device during a secretive and
unprecedented collaboration with AT&T Mobility Cingular Wireless at
the time at an estimated development cost of US$150 million over
thirty months. Apple rejected the "design by committee" approach that
had yielded the Motorola ROKR
E1, a largely unsuccessful collaboration with Motorola. Instead,
Cingular gave Apple the liberty to develop the iPhone's hardware and
software in-house.
iPhone is more than just a phone. It combines three devices in one:
a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and
a breakthrough Internet device. All that and more makes it the best
phone you’ll ever use. With the Multi-Touch interface on iPhone, you
can make a call simply by tapping a name or number in your contacts or
favorites list, your call log, or just about anywhere. Visual Voicemail
lets you select and listen to messages in whatever order you want just
like email. The first thing you’ll notice about iPhone 3GS is how
quickly you can launch applications. Web pages render in a fraction of
the time, and you can view email attachments faster. Improved
performance and updated 3D graphics deliver an incredible gaming
experience, too. In fact, everything you do on iPhone 3GS is up to 2x
faster and more responsive than iPhone 3G.
The iPhone allows audio conferencing, call holding, call merging,
caller ID, and integration with other cellular network features and
iPhone functions. For example, if a song is playing while a call is
received, it gradually fades out, and fades back when the call has
ended. The first two models only support voice dialing through third
party applications. Voice control, available only on the iPhone 3GS,
allows users to say a contact's name or number and the iPhone will dial.
One of the great features that come with the iphone is the find my
iphone and remote wipe. If you misplace your iPhone, Apple’s MobileMe
service can help you find it. Log on to me.com to view a map that shows
the approximate location of your iPhone. If it’s nearby, have it play
an alert sound to help you find it. If it’s not, you can display a
custom message, remotely lock it with a passcode, or initiate a remote
wipe and restore it to factory settings.
