Allan Pease on how to give a compliment

International bestselling author Allan Pease and wife Barbara, best known for their co-authored book "The Definitive Book of Body Language", teach seminars on how to become people magnets. Their successful company Pease International Pty Ltd produces training courses, videos and seminars for businesses and governments worldwide, helping them to become more people-conscious.

In a recent seminar, Allan taught visitors how to give a compliment. He noted that if you pay someone a compliment every 60 seconds, after a 10-minute converstaion that person will remember you as being taller, thinner and younger. "Forget the diets, they don't burn compliments," says Pease. He goes on to teach audiences how to compliment someone they don't know.

There are only three things about someone you can compliment: their appearance (something you see), their behaviour (something they do) or their possessions (something they own). Don't hesitate to pay a compliment because it may get rejected. Just don't let it get rejected, which is as easy as beginning the compliment by saying the pseron's name and ending it with an open-ended question. "Allan, I like your tie. It's a great colour you. Why did you choose that particular tie?" The rest is a conversation.

Pease's book, "The Definitive Book of Body Language" covers a rage of similar lessons from "How to make a positive impression on others" to "How to tell if someone is lying". It has become an international bestseller, and is available from WantItAll for the Best Price of R396.
