Harry Potter is a very famous seven part children's book series written by
J.K Rowling. It's the story of a young orphaned boy who one day finds out that he is a wizard. What's more, without knowing it, Harry is a celebrity in the world of wizards. Every book in the series covers one school year at the magical school for witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts. Here Harry has to struggle with learning how to be a wizard, making new friends, dealing with his celebrity status, getting the better of a number of bullies, and foiling the repeated attacks of Voldemort, who is back from the dead and is determined to kill Harry.
The books have been immensely popular around the world. They've been translated into 67 languages, including even Ancient Greek and Latin! The first Harry Potter movie came out in 2001, and with that release Harry's popularity boomed. The DVDs took off just about as fast as the books did.
And now, in just a little over the month the seventh Harry Potter movie is coming out. So much happens in Harry's last year as a wizarding student that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie was split into two parts. You'll have to wait until July 2011 to see the big series finale, but Deathly Hallows part one will be released next month, on the 19th of November.
