Pacman

Since Pacman’s launch in 1980 this arcade classic has become one of the most famous games and one of the most iconic brands in the world. Pacman is virtually synonymous with arcade games. Despite a lukewarm initial reception in Japan, where Pacman was developed, the game soon gained massive popularity in the US. 

In the US, the game was renamed from the original Puckman to Pac-Man. (Manufacturers were worried people would find the P on the arcade cabinet too irresistible a target for vandalism.) And even today many Pacman editions, spin-offs and fan-made versions are still being produced, along with a lot of fun Pacman merchandise.
