Description

Luca Sforzini Arte has the honour of presenting an unknown masperpiece : "Portrait of Laura Locadelli, guised as Saint Cecily at the organ" attributable to the hand of Bernardino Campi (Reggio Emilia 1520 - 1591, active in Cremona, Milano, Mantova) and his assistants, datable 1560-75 - painting Oil on canvas, cm 156 x 108.5. The painting in question is nowadays unknown to literature and it is located in a private collection in Italy. St. Cecily 's model is indeed Laura Locadelli, Bernardino Campi's niece (Campi also represents her guised as Salome in Cremona 's Cathedral). Bernardino 's niece was given as spouse to Giovanni Battista Trotti - also known as Malosso (Cremona 1555 - Parma 1619) - heir of Bernardino Campi's atelier. The painting could therefore have been destined for private purposes, as a wedding gift from Bernardino to the newlyweds or as a dowry for the bride. The artwork shows very good conditions, especially considering the ancientness of this painting. Both canvas and frame are originals. The pictorical surface has recently been professionally cleaned, revealing its remarkable integrity; only minimal pictorical integration is required - complexively no more than 5% of the entire painted surface - as detectable in the image documentation of the restoring process. Please do write for further informations and images to lucasforziniarte@libero.it Tel +39-331-4125138 . Conditions : see photos and description. The artwork can be seen directly, by appointment. International bidders please note that : due to Italian law regarding exportation of artworks more than 50 years old - Exportation Papers would get up to 3 months time to get stamped and shipping will be consequently delayed.
