Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
On the night of 23rd of July the world woke up hearing the saddest news that one of the most influential and sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer of pop singer Amy Winehouse was no more as the details of her death was not divulged. Since her debut album that she released in 2003 with the album she titled it Frank that received generally positive reviews from most music critics and earned Winehouse several accolades, including anIvor Novello Award. Since its original release in the United Kingdom, the album has been reissued in Canada, the United States and Australia. On 18 December 2008, it was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, denoting shipments in excess of 900,000 copies in the UK. And to date she was the proud recipient of 5 Grammy awards and was inducted in Robert Dimery's 2006 book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die which all embodies the hugely immense talent that this Brit lad had. With regards to her last studio album she did she called Back to Back which she released it in 2006 which include 1960s soul music styles and modern R&B production, with subjective lyrics that concern relationships and reflect on Winehouse's experiences with drinking, sex, and drugs. The album produced several singles, including "Rehab", "You Know I'm No Good", "Back to Black", "Tears Dry on Their Own", and "Love Is a Losing Game".
Back to Black received generally positive reviews from music critics, earning praise for its classicist soul influences, Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson's production, and Winehouse's songwriting and emotive singing style. She attributed the reasons that she was inspired by the powerful sounds of Motown sound artsist such as Ray Charles, Marvin Gay and Mr. Hathaway, hence she sampled the song “Tears Dry on their own” which she sampled the backing music from Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 1967 song "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Best of all, though, is the fact that Back to Black bucks the current trend in R&B by being unabashedly grown-up in both style and content. Winehouse's lyrics deal with relationships from a grown-up perspective, and are honest, direct and, often, complicated: on "You Know I'm No Good", she's unapologetic about her unfaithfulness. But she can also be witty, as on "Me&Mrs Jones" when she berates a boyfriend with "You made me miss the Slick Rick gig". Back to Black is a refreshingly mature soul album, the best of its kind for years. Well it’s adieus! Judge her or not but one ultimate thing we need to know is that she blessed us with her immense talent she had and has definitely lived her life to the fullest hence it was cut short prematurely when she was at the prime of her life.
