The Sovereign is Sorby's brilliant handle and interchangeable tool system, which, coupled with the huge range of accessories and matching tooling, offers turners an extreme level of versatility, flexibility, and customization never before seen. Available in three basic handle lengths - 12", 16" and 22" - the system not only accepts a wide range of tools specifically designed to match the handles, it will also take any of Sorby's standard un-handled tool blades that have a 5/8" diameter shaft. Also included are 3/8" and 1/2" collets (see note on sizing below) to accept tools with those diameters. A separate 1/4" Collet (#89029) is also available. The collets open up turner's ability to use the Sovereign for a whole host of different chisels The Sovereign handles and collet system are ideal for quick change from one tool to another. At the same time they enable the turner to lengthen or shorten the tool length. Like all other Sorby products the system is made in Sheffield to the most exacting engineering standards. The handles are made of steel and aluminum alloy to give the best strength, balance and vibration dampening qualities. Each handle comes with a durable Softex grip for extra comfort and additional knurling provides a further non-slip surface. England 12" Sovereign System: Includes a 12" handle and the 3/8" & 1/2" reducing collets. Other accessories for the system sold separately. Several optional extras for the Sovereign System add to it's versatility and appeal: Counterweight - Although the handles are beautiful balanced some turners like a bit of extra weight for control.
