Carole King is one of the world’s
most respected artists who have got the plethora of expertise more
especially of songwriting as she has written the profound number of
songs for many artists during the 1960s, many of which have become
standards. As a singer, her Tapestry album topped the U.S. album chart
for 15 weeks in 1971, and remained on the charts for more than six
years. Like the information I gave you earlier on that she was most
successful as a performer in the first half of the 1970s, although she
was a successful songwriter long before and long after. She had her
first number 1 hit as a songwriter in 1961 at age 18, with "Will You
Love Me Tomorrow", which she wrote with Goffin. In 1997, she co-wrote
"The Reason" for Aerosmith, but instead it was sung by Celine Dion. As
you will remember ever since she went solo after the successful spell
with Gerry Goffin, King sang backup vocals on the demo of Little
Eva's The Loco-Motion which she also co-wrote. She had had a modest hit
in 1962 singing one of her own songs, It Might As Well Rain Until
September (22 in the US and top 10 in the UK, later a hit in Canada
for Gary and Dave), but after He's a Bad Boy made 94 in 1963, it took
King eight years to reach the Hot 100 singles chart again as a
performer.
Which
is why with me I happen to have here with me one of her very recent
compilation that she has just completed which is an album called
Legendary Demos which is made up of the entire astounding collection of
13 original demo recordings by Carole King featuring many of her most
famous songs is being released for the very first time! This collection
traces King's journey from her days as an Aldon Music staff song writer
in the 60s crafting hits for other artists, to the dawn of her own
triumphant solo career in the 1970s and her legendary Tapestry album
release. The Legendary Demos proves once and for all precisely WHY she
is the most successful and revered female singer/songwriter in music
history.
