Xbox accidentally announced new ‘Gears of War’ game

According to a recent post by Wired magazine, Microsoft let it slip that the next installment of the popular ‘Gears of War’ game will be released in April 2011. The game was supposed to be announced by designer Cliff Bleszinski on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show on Thursday, but that never happened.

Bleszinski, according to rumours and crazed fans, was bumped to the Monday show because of Canadian pop infant Justin Bieber’s appearance on the show. Whether that’s the case or not, Xbox staff forgot to remove the announcement of the game from Xbox Live that went live Friday morning. (The advert has since been pulled.)

The Gears of War gaming franchise which began in 2006, sees a bushel of typical brawny soldiers fending off a typically hostile alien invasion. The first person shooter sees player defend the human race from the Locust on the planet Sera.

The massively popular game was leading up to a film adaptation but this, according to the LA Times, has been scaled down. New Line who were developing the project, say that the budget and the story for the film have been cut back, while director Len Wiseman (of the “Underworld” franchise), has turned his attention to another film.

The well developed protagonists, good story and mythical weaponry are all Hollywood would want in a film and it has a huge following to boost the hype. No rumours surrounding the development of the film have been verified.
