Books - Other People's Husbands - Judy Astley
Ever heard of the saying married but not to each other? That how the story unfolds in this novel when Sue’s mother tells her that she shouldn't marry Conrad because the 25-year age gap between them would tell in the end and it seems like the end is nearing fast. Conrad, a famous painter, whose seventieth birthday is approaching, he wonders if he really wants to be there for his coming birthday. He has decided that it would be good to die before he gets seriously old and so spends his time sorting out his chaotic life. Sue, teaching art at a local college, finds that she has plenty of male company which are other people's husbands, ones she tells Conrad all about, who are just good friends to her. This novel is a heart-warming and gentle look at the relationships between husbands and wives. It gives you the inside scoop on how some marriages are molded as time goes by. It doesn’t discourage you in any way but it shows you some things that can be resolved and those that just stay as they were, unresolved and left for no discussion.
