DVD – Conviction
A true-life drama of a man wrongly imprisoned for murder in 1983, and the battle of his sister loyally and unshakably certain of his innocence to get legal training to reverse the guilty verdict. Sam Rockwell plays Kenny Waters, a regular guy with a temper and a violent streak; Hilary Swank plays his sister Betty Anne, intensely close to her brother. Melissa Leo plays Nancy Taylor, the flawed and driven cop who has her eye on the insolent Kenny. When an old lady is brutally murdered, Officer Taylor produces a string of witnesses who testify that Kenny bragged about having done it. This circumstantial hearsay is enough to send him down for life. But DNA technology becomes available in the 90s and Betty Anne realizes she can get Kenny off. The film keeps you in suspense and it kind of makes you think that maybe just maybe Kenny has done it after all. Being accused of something you didn’t do is just not right for anyone and no one would even wish something like that to happen to their enemy. After the damage has been done it leaves you scarred for life and everyone now has developed that mentality of you being a criminal and because of that your name will not be cleared anytime sooner. So starting from bottom is definitely not an option but a serious problem that one should follow in order to get their life back on track, it might take time but at least you’ll be trying.
