“3D display only viable by 2012”
says Sony
Every January, Microsoft, Google,
Sony, Dell and a few others (sans Apple), get together to impress and
be impressed by the advancements consumers can expect for the upcoming
year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The largest consumer-technology
trade show sees 2,700 vedours outplay each other over four days.
Mega-display maker Sony and others,
are looking to carve out more of the market that cheaper, good quality
upstarts like Vizio are stealing. To do this, some are going all out
to provide an image displayer that provides the extra dimension. The
concept for images that portray depth was evident at this years CES
where industry giants had an array of concept 3D imaging devices for
games, TV and points-of-sale.
The idea of watching TV without the
TV was a hit at the CES this week in Las Vegas, but Sony says it’s
only going to available by 2012 at the earliest. The third dimension
in the home is only at concept stage but Sony are developing 3D-friendly
players and screens for when the technology is ripe for consumers to
taste.
