M. Night Shyamalan’s Avatar impression

M. Night Shyamalan’s Avatar impression

The battle for the name of the film Avatar was not a very epic nor enduring one, when James Cameron and the executive producers of the highest grossing film of all-time told M. Night Shyamalan that his big-screen version of the kids’ programme Avatar could not be released with that name. As a result he’s releasing the fantasy epic and long-awaited film under the name The Last Airbender.

The massively popular children’s television series that has captured more than a few adults’ attention, Avatar is the story of four nations each with the capacity to manipulate one of the four elements – water, air, earth and fire. In the absence of the Avatar the Fire Lord is destroying the other nations, until Aang, the protagonist – the last airbender, arrives. He is the world’s last hope for peace.

The unique animation combines American style cartoon with Chinese anime while the story line of centres on Chinese martial arts and elemental manipulation. The series has garnered a massive following of 5.6 million viewers, which will no doubt make M. Night Shyamalan quite a favourite for his brilliant interpretation of the series.

Trailers for the The Last Airbender, which will be released in July this year, hit online recently. You can check them out here.
