Sonic the Hedgehog 4 goes old school

Sega have listened to their hardcore Sonic fans while creating the new Sonic the Hedgehog game which sees them go back to basics. The game feels like an old classic with HD edges to make it shine like brand new.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 brings back the loops, bumpers, and spin dash of the old Sonic games, but with more speed and branching paths that make the game replayable. The game was demoed at this year’s E3 where Sonic received quite some attention.

The developers of the game had a massive presence at the expo with five Sonic upcoming releases. These are the games that are supposedly putting the game back on the map after a long absence. The games that were present at E3 were Sonic Colours, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Adventure.

The games are designed for a variety of consoles. Sonic Colours was developed for the Wii and DS, while Sonic Free Riders is for Kinect–the controller-free gaming and entertainment experience for the Xbox 360. Sonic Adventure is for XBLA and PSN.

Just after the E3 expo, Sega launched a creative video contest to celebrate the 19th year of Hedgehog’s existence. Players just upload the videos showing their appreciation of Sonic to YouTube or the Sonic 4 Contest Page and wait for the judging to be over. Winners get to travel to Tokyo to meet the Sega developers or win a 32 GB iPod Touch™.
