To solstice or not to solstice

solstice

By the time you have opened this blog, you will have survived one full month of winter.  With winter being 93.6490 days long, it can be said that we here in the southern hemisphere have exactly 63.6490 days of coolness left before spring waves her lovely wand at us.  But if you want to get technical about it, you have to remember that the change of seasons is dependent on the degree that the sun shines upon the earth.   You see, the rotation axis of the Earth is tilted over 23°. It follows that r(ε) is 0.45, which means that on a midwinter's day slightly less than half as much sunlight falls on a square meter of earth's surface than on a midsummer's day (ignoring the effects of the atmosphere). The orbit of the Earth has an eccentricity of 0.017. It follows that re is 0.94, which means that at aphelion about 94% as much sunlight hits the ground as at perihelion.

Or to DVD…

We don’t either, but one thing we do know is that mid-winter is approaching and that its time to snuggle up,  get out your DVD’s and games, and stretch out under your warm winter blanket and relax.   Note to self:  If you do not have these valuable relaxation items, you can easily get them from us through our easy four step system (much easier than calculating how long or short winter is still going to be) which the dedicated team at wantitall.co.za have set out for you, from the comfort of your own home.
