There’s More to Barbie than You Think
She’s doesn’t set the trend but prefers to follows it. She one of the most famous fashion models on earth and yet she isn’t even a real flesh and blood person. Barbie has had an eventful career, right from the moment she was born back in 1959, which she also did in style: in a retro zebra-stripe bathing suit.
We tend to think of Barbie as doing little more than dressing up, hanging with her hip friends and wallowing in pink and glitter, but Barbie has had some surprisingly butt-kicking careers. Sure, she’s worked as a flight attendant, but did you know she also happens to have a pilot’s licence? She was even an astonaut at one point, in a bespoke slim-fit space suit.
And that’s not all. For two years, from 2004 to 2006 she broke up with her long-term boyfriend Ken so that he could get his act together. They’re back together now after Ken had a big make-over. It’s been hard for him to keep up with Barbie’s many transformations since their first meeting in 1961. Did you know Ken didn’t have synthetic hair back then? For a brief time his hair used to be made of felt. Unfortunately for Ken the felt hair was not such a success. As soon as it got wet it would fall out, leaving him prematurely bald!
