Seiko blends tradition
with innovation
Watchmaking, or horology as it is
known, is a tradition that was passed down from father to son over generations.
It was a skill that was closely guarded and treasured. One watch company,
Seiko, still preserves this tradition, while combining it with innovation.
Tradition
Kintaro Hattori founded a watch called
K. Hattori & Co., Ltd in 1881 and brought out the Seiko product
range in 1924. The name of the company was later changed to Seiko Corporation.
Through these changes the mission
of the company has remained the same: to share the company’s pleasure
and pride in production, giving the consumer pleasure and pride in possession.
Today, the company is run by Kintaro
Hattori’s great-grandson, Shinj Hattori
Innovation
Seiko’s quest for innovation began
with the world’s first quartz watch, known as the Seiko Astron, in
1926. Most recently, and in honour of the first civilian’s visit to
the moon, Seiko launched the first watch designed for walking in space,
called the Spring Drive Spacewalk.
Today, Seiko Watches prides itself on being the only company to combine every watchmaking expertise. It does this using the combination of tradition and innovation that ensures it fulfills its mission to share the company’s pleasure and pride with its consumers.
