Jeff Beck insures fingers after knife mishap

Just before completing his latest album, former Yardbird Jeff Beck sliced off the tip of one of his digits while chopping carrots for a stew, say sources close to the guitarist. Surgeons had no trouble putting the piece back on, but Beck had no such ease completing the album “Emotion and Commotion”. The 65-year-old rocker has subsequently insured his fingers and thumbs for GBP7 million–GBP700 000 for each digit.

The rehabilitated finger can be heard on his most recent album “Emotion and Commotion”, released last week after a seven-year break from the recording studio. It follows a series of high-profile events at which the artist made a number of appearances, such as The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concerts and last year’s live album “Performing This Week… Live at Ronnie Scott’s”.

Despite taking so long to release his 17th album, it’s being typically well-received and serves as a reminder that Beck is still one of the top five guitarists in the world. More experimental than his contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, Beck has explored jazz and techno, and other distinctive genres. The latest album sees glass shattering solos interspersed amid the more liquid guitar sounds so characteristic of contemporary Beck.

“Emotion and Commotion” is available on WantItAll for the Best Price of R196.
