Sarah McLachlen returns after a seven year break from the recording studio
In a recent interview with E! Online, Canadian born singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlen said she would never have auditioned for American Idol if it was around at the beginning of her career. The singers says she would have failed dismally. “It’s too much pressure,” she told Mark Malkin. “I would never have put myself in that situation in the first place. I just wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing it.”
The singer has recently released a new album, Laws of Illusion, a lengthy seven years since her last album Afterglow was released. It has, however, been an eventful seven years, seeing her release a holiday album and perform at the Olympics. She is also the single mother of two girls: India and Taja. She and husband of 11 years Ashwin Sood announced their separation in September 2008.
The album is a departure, particularly the first track on the album “Loving You is Easy”, for McLachlen as an upbeat pop confection. It’s lighter and more fun than her previous releases, even though the album was shaped by her experiences (some difficult) over the last seven years. The album, though, is not without McLachlen’s typical emotional stamp.
She will be performing the new songs live in concert in a Northern Summer this year at the Lilith Fair. Her latest album Laws of Illusion is available from WantItAll.
